Shri Vishwasrao Chowgule was known in the business world as an architect of modern GOA and the founder of higher education in this state.

Shri Vishwasrao Chowgule had a special feeling for this college - like he had for his beloved mother. Because of his involvement, guidance, help and blessings we could now have a greener and colorful college premises. It was in 1962 Chowgule House got permission to house a college in the Military barracks. In Four Week?s time Chowgule House converted the barracks into a college.

The Bombay University Committee consisting of Prof. G.D. Parekh, Rector, Prof. A.N. Kothare, Prof. G. Bannerjee visited college site and on the strength of the report they made to the University authorities, the college was affiliated to Bombay University from June 1962.

Founded in memory of a woman, the college was inaugurated by a woman, the then External Minister Smt. Lakshmi Menon.
